Master Template

The Master Template is a special type of template which stores certain global drawing settings. There is always only one Master Template.

Although you may create templates and use these to define initial settings for new drawings, there may be some settings which you wish to remain constant no matter what template you have used.

With palettes, for example, there may be some palettes which are used only for one type of job, other palettes used only for another type of job and some which you use no matter what type of job it is. The former palettes could be set up in individual templates while the latter would be best defined in the Master Template.

All settings in the Master Template are automatically applied to every drawing every time the drawing is opened. Therefore, unlike with normal templates, you can make updates even after the drawing is created.

The Master Template does not appear in the Project Browser with the other templates. Instead use File - Open - Master Template to open it and File - Save or File - Close to close it.

Any items which are set up in the Master Template cannot be modified or deleted from other drawings. (For example, a palette which is defined in the Master Template appears greyed out in the list shown in Options - Design for any project.)

When you add a new item and save the Master Template, the item appears in each drawing the next time it is opened. Drawings which were open when you modified the Master Template are not immediately updated; they must be closed and re-opened.

When you delete an item from the Master Template, it is not deleted from the drawings, it simply reverts to a normal setting. This is because the item may be in use in the drawing. If you wish the item to be removed from drawings, you must do this manually.
