Edit Bar controls: Name, Type
This tool is used to create and assign a variable "on the fly" to one or more dimension entities. These variables may be used to create a parametric design.
To use simply activate the tool and enter a variable name you wish to use for a dimension in the Name field on the Edit Bar and select the type of variable this will be using the Type drop-down. Click on the dimension you want to assign the variable to. If a variable has not been previously created with this variable name the Variable Properties window will open allowing you to build the properties for that variable. When this happens, enter the desired properties and click OK to create that variable. The value displayed on the dimension you initially clicked on is changed to the variable name as long as Show Dimension Variable Names is selected in Edit>Visibility>Text/Dimensions settings. If you wish this variable to be applied to multiple dimensions simply click on those dimensions and the value will change to the assigned variable.
NOTE: Show Dimension Variable Names in the Edit>Visibility>Text/Dimensions settings should be activated when you select the Create and Associate tool for the first time. you will receive a text box indicating that it is recommended that these be turned on. Just click Yes to activate. No further action would be required unless this is turned off manually.
You can also enter a mathematical expression in the Name field using any of the existing variables (for example: A+B-2mm). You can then click on the dimension(s) to which you wish to assign the formula.
