Line Axes

Edit Bar controls: Construction, Interactive, Angle, Line Length, Line Position, Create Duplicate Entities, Palette Group, Palette.

This tool allows you to draw two lines at right angles to each other. The line may be of a specified length, or construction lines. The lines maybe placed horizontally and vertically or tangential to an arc or circle.

Interactive - hides the Line Length option and Construction options, so that the length of the lines is determined by click & drag, in accordance with the Grid Settings. Visual confirmation of the actual line length is provided by the cursor details.

Construction - determines if the lines are to be construction lines or drawn in the current palette.

Angle - specifies the angle through which to rotate the entities.

Line Length - this is the length of the lines to be drawn. You can either enter the required length on the edit bar or use the Nudge keys to adjust the length interactively.

Line Position - this is the position of the new lines.

Bottom/Left - the line position will be to the bottom or to the left.

Centre - the line position will be central.

Top/Right - the line position will be to the top or to the right.

Select the Edit Bar options then pick a point for the axes lines.

Constraint Manager

If you have the Constraint Manager active whilst using this tool you will experience the following differences:

  • In Interactive mode an equal length constraint will be applied to the two lines unless the Shift modifier is used
  • In Non-interactive mode an equal length constraint will be applied to the two lines - this will also include any previous axes on multiple use of a particular length unless the Control modifier is used
  • A coincident constraint will be applied to the two lines - this will also include any entity that the lines are snapped onto unless the Shift modifier is used
  • In Non-interactive mode a length dimension will be added to one of the lines on first use of a particular length
  • If Angle is zero, then horizontal and vertical constraints will be added respectively
  • If Angle is non-zero, then an angle dimension will be added to one of the lines on the first use of a particular angle
  • If Angle is non-zero, then a perpendicular constraint will be applied to the two lines
  • If Angle is non-zero, then an equal angle constraint will be added on multiple use of a particular angle
