Shift Symbols

This tool has two modes; New and Select. It defaults to New, where you can add new symbols. These symbols are usually components such as joggers and tape guides.

New mode

Edit bar controls

The symbols in the drop-down list are defined in the Extra symbols list on the Frame page of the MTS. The settings also define the required alignment for each symbol. If the alignment is set to Frame then the edit bar contains Show infer lines and Add infer line, otherwise it has separate options for vertical and horizontal infer lines. Infer lines look a little like construction lines and allow you align new symbols horizontally or vertically with existing symbols. The alignment settings force the symbols to be locked to the inside of the frame, inside of the grip edge, centre of a bar or the inside of a one-up perimeter.

Offset

You can specify a value here to offset the symbol from the locked entity.

Show infer lines

Use these options to switch the visibility of the infer lines on or off.

Add infer lines

Use these options to add an infer line with each symbol that you add.

Auto infer

This option is only available for symbols whose alignment is set to Frame. It allows you to add the same symbol on the opposite side of the frame.

You can right-click to bring up a context menu:

  • Edit bar options are repeated
  • Finish symbols – finish the Shift Symbols tool
  • Drag symbol – this option becomes available when you have a symbol selected
  • Change symbol – this option becomes available when you have a symbol selected
  • New – switch to the Add new symbol mode
  • Select – switch to the Select symbol mode
  • Edit
  • Copy
  • Delete – this option becomes available when you have a symbol selected

Select mode

Once you have selected a symbol the following sub-tools become available on the right-click context menu:

Drag symbol

You can move the selected symbol by identifying a pick-up point followed by a put-down point to specify the required offset.

Change symbol

This sub-tool allows you to change the selected symbol using the Symbol Select form.

Delete

Delete the selected symbol.
