The Recompute button under the Variables tab applies size changes to variables in the parametric design. It is necessary to click this button when Auto Update is disengaged (not highlighted).
To use, simply click on the number to the right of the desired variable in the variable window to change the value or measurement. Then, by clicking Recompute, the new value is applied to the design.
