The Advanced Mode option defines what is shown in the Variables Window of the Impact Explorer.
With the Advanced Mode disabled, you will only see variables listed in the window. This still allows a parametric to be resized but hides the expressions and groups thus simplifying the interface for a generic user to enter the basic sizing information without having to scroll through all of the mathematical mechanics.
This setting also provides a cut-down context menu giving only the following options:-

With the Advanced Mode enabled, Impact provides the most complete listing of all the variables and formulae used in the parametric model. This is extremely useful to all of you parametric designers out there.
