Meta-Extractors

Many files contain meta-data (meaning data about data). For example a digital photo file typically contains the image size (height and width in pixels), the date the photograph was taken, and perhaps some information about the camera. Similarly, a Word document might contain the author and title of the document.

Such meta-data may be automatically extracted and stored alongside any document being added to Impact, allowing the values to be subsequently used as criteria when searching for documents.

The extraction of meta-data is performed by the document provider (for example the Impact Document Provider). The provider supports certain meta-data keys and you can map each of these to a custom column in the DOCUMENT database table.

Document Meta-Data Extraction

You can add, remove or modify the rows in the table. To add a new row to the table, click on the Document Column entry in the bottom row of the table and press the Tab key. This will create a new blank row into which you can add the required data. To remove a row, simply delete the data in that row and press Apply.

Use the Document Configuration button to view or modify the Document Configuration settings.
