Trim One-up

To get optimal sheet utilisation, it may be necessary or desirable to overlap some of the one-up designs in a layout.  This is achieved by trimming parts out of any hidden flaps or panels which will not be seen on the erected box.

The aim of this tool is to allow users to more easily trim away the overlapping sections and replace them with a closed cut profile.

Here is an example of a layout that has overlapping flaps, and requires trimming:

Layout Trim - Before trimming

In this example the small flaps on the first (left-hand) and third panels of the one-up at the centre of the left-hand column can have a piece cut out of them, as they will be hidden when the box is assembled.

When you start the Trim One-up tool you will be asked to identify the one-up to trim. In this case it is the centre-left one-up that you should identify.

You then need to define a rectangle by clicking two opposite corners to specify the region within which entities will be trimmed. In this case define a rectangle surrounding the first (left-hand) panel and connecting flaps of the identified one-up. The two entities will be trimmed as required.

Now you can define a second rectangle surrounding the third panel and its connecting flaps. The two entities will be trimmed and you should right-click to cancel the tool.

If a Value Mapping has been defined in Options - Database Installation - Layout Creator (After) then this will be performed after each trim operation has taken place.

The resulting trimmed layout will look like this:

Layout Trim - After trimming

Alternatively, you can Ctrl-click the one-up. In this case that one-up will be kept, and any intersecting ones will be trimmed. This is the same as the Edit > Trim > Trim tool.
